Urgent Care

What is Urgent Care?

Urgent Care is for the immediate care of injuries or illnesses that are not life threatening.  Common items that would benefit from a visit to Urgent Care include sore throat, broken arm, small cuts that may need stitches, etc.

Urgent Care fills in the gaps between the Hospital and your Primary Care physician.  While Urgent Care should not be used for life-threatening issues such as a heart attack or a stroke, then do provide a bridge when you need immediate medical attention and your primary care physician is not available and you cannot wait for an appointment.

When should I use Urgent Care?

Urgent Care offers many advantages over a traditional Emergency Room or Primary Care visit.  Here are just a few:

  • Quicker access for minor injuries than traditional Emergency Rooms as we work on arrival times, not triage.
  • In-house services like X-Rays allow for more rapid diagnosis than a traditional Primary Care visit.
  • No appointments necessary

You should always go to the ER or call 911 if life or limb are at risk. However, here are some examples of situations that you can come to an Urgent Care for: if your primary care doctor’s office is closed, you have symptoms of a cold or flu, mild sprains and strains, cuts that may need stitches, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, dehydration, painful urination, etc.
